Discovered, selected and evaluated by the famous nurseryman D. Adrian Gil in 1948 by spontaneous bud-mutation in a Washington Navel tree in Vinaròs (Castellón, SPAIN).
All our Navelate plantations are situated in the place where the mutation appeared: Vinaròs.
Its fruits are like the Washington Navel, orange and yellow colour, somewhat paler and smaller size. Its texture is thin, flux and has a high juice content, low acidity and high content of dissolved solids, which gives it an extraordinary internal quality, being the variety of orange with the highest quality in the world. It has a very high-quality juice, low in limonene, so not bitter after extraction.
Mature slightly after the Washington Navel and keeps its internal quality for many months, until April or May depending on weather conditions.
In recent years, despite its quality, it has been phased out due to their low productivity, requiring very special care both to achieve production and to avoid the many problems of alteration of its peel, which is dehydrated by the winds and as result classifying and selling just a little quantity for fresh consumption, it also gets damaged in the process of handling the warehouses of manufacturing of fruit.
However, despite its low profitability, we continue their production, still one of our most important strains. Although the crust may have a defect, it does not affect its enormous internal quality.
